13 Ways to Serve Your Neighbors!

You know how hard and weird the last couple months have been for you and your family. Can you imagine how difficult it’s been for your neighbors?

You can brighten up their day by doing just a few easy things for them! Check out these ideas:

Mow the lawn or pull weeds

Ask your neighbor first if they want their lawn mowed or weeds pulled, because it’s right and polite before you make big changes to somebody else’s stuff!

You might not be old enough to run the lawn mower yourself, but you can still pull weeds from the spots the mower can’t reach. Look along the porch, steps, or fence (and in the garden or flower bed of course!).

If you can mow, try mowing long, straight lines perpendicular to the street. Then when people drive by they’ll see alternating strips pointing to the house, which is a neat pattern I love to see on my front yard.

Free lemonade stand

Ah, yes, the classic lemonade stand. I remember setting up a stand a few times when I was growing up, and I probably made a whole five dollars in my whole lemonade career! 😀

It’s a great way to learn to work to make money, but maybe this summer you can donate your time (and your parents’ lemonade mix) to give away lemonade instead! Your neighbors will really appreciate the effort you put in for a cold drink.

Some people might still want to give you money for the lemonade; in that case, you could take it as donations to your church or to a non-profit that your family already supports. When you donate the money, let your church or the non-profit know about your story – they’ll be so encouraged to hear it!

Shopping for a neighbor

The coronavirus can affect older people much more than most younger people, and so many of your older neighbors may be staying home a lot more. You can help them out by asking what groceries or household items they need.

The next time your parents go grocery shopping, go along with and pick out some of those items. Drop them off on their front porch and you’ll be giving them a pleasant surprise.

These are just a couple ideas of serving your neighbors, and maybe you’ve come up with a few more yourself. Get your parents’ help and remember Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
