You could call it a modern marvel, you could call it a tummy ache generator, but whatever you think of it, today is National Gummy Bear Day!
Hans Riegel invented gummy bears in 1922, so they’re over a hundred years old, and over 160 million gummy bears are produced around the world every day!

Ingredients:
Gummy bear mold such as this one
Liquid droppers, like the ones included with the molds in the link above
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup grape juice
1/2 cup water mixed with 1 tbsp lemon juice and green food coloring
1/2 cup Sprite or 7Up
1/2 cup sugar, separated into four portions of 2 tbsp each
1/4 cup agar powder, separated into four portions of 1 tbsp each
Directions:
- In a pan on the stove, mix the orange juice, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 tbsp agar powder and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes on medium high heat.
- Pour the mixture through a strainer into a cup and set aside.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 with each of the remaining juices and Sprite/7Up
- Use the liquid dropper to fill the spaces in the gummy bear mold with each of the mixtures.
- Place in the refrigerator for 10 minutes, or until solidified.
- Once the gummy bears have set in the mold, you can pop them out of the mold and enjoy!
