Advent Day 15: Now!

Thank you for joining Keys for Kids Radio’s Countdown to Christmas Advent Activity! Read the story below, answer the questions on the discussion guide, and send us a voice message on the Christmas Message Machine!
âTime to leave!â called Mom.
âIâm almost done with this level,â said Timothy, eyes glued to the computer screen.
Mom stepped into his bedroom. âGet dressed now,â she said. âWe donât want to hold up the pageant rehearsal.â She hurried down the hall, calling for Timothyâs little sister, Gabby.
âI donât see why I have to be in the Christmas pageant,â muttered Timothy. âIâm just a dumb shepherd, anyway.â
He dug a brown robe from a pile of clothes and pulled it over his head. He looked at himself in the mirror. âBoy, I hope no one from school sees me wearing this!â
Timothy walked into the kitchen, tugging at the rope wrapped around his waist. âThis costume is itchy. Do I have to do this?â
Mom was struggling with Gabbyâs angel costume. âStand still, honey. These buttons are hard to see.â She blew a wisp of hair from her face. âWeâve made a commitment, Timothy. We canât let everyone down. Besides, youâre in the pageant every year.â
âThatâs just it,â said Timothy. âItâs the same old thing, every single Christmas. A bunch of shepherds, a few wise men. Itâs not like weâre telling a new story. Itâs boring!â
Mom stood up. âCome here, Timothy.â She held out her arms and hugged him.
âI know you donât want to do this. But some things canât wait. Some stories need
us to tell themâover and over again, right now!â
âBut Iâm just a shepherd,â said Timothy. âTheyâre not interesting. Not like the angels.â He pointed at Gabby. His little sister smiled and twirled in her angel costume.
Mom straightened Gabbyâs halo. âThe angelsâ job was to tell the shepherds about Jesusâs birth. The shepherds were the first people to learn and spread the word that God had sent Jesus as a Savior to the world!â
âThat is pretty cool, I guess,â said Timothy.
âIt sure is,â said Mom. âAnd did the shepherds say, âLetâs go to Bethlehem in the morning, when itâs light outsideâ? No. Did they say, âLetâs find someone to watch these sheep, and then weâll go to Bethlehemâ? No! They said, âLetâs go to Bethlehem now!’â
âOkay, Mom,â said Timothy, heading for the door. âI guess we do need to get to church. To tell the story of Jesusânow!â
How about you?
How many times have you heard the Christmas story? Twenty times? A hundred times? Even if the story feels familiar, try to experience it the way the shepherds didâas a glorious revelation from God that can change your life right now! Pray that God will help you feel the urgency and power of the story this Christmas season and share it with others.
