In the story of Abraham, he meets Melchizedek, who is both a king and a priest of God. Melchizedek gives God’s blessing to Abraham and his family, just like priests would later do for the whole nation of Israel. And Abraham gave Melchizedek ten percent of what he owns, or a “tithe”, of all he had, just like Israelites would later give tithes to the Temple in the Jerusalem.
