Why is Good Friday Called 'Good'?

Have you ever wondered why Good Friday is called ‘good’? I mean, it was pretty terrible for Jesus; He was beaten, tortured, and put on the cross to die. It sounds awful!

Good Friday is part of the most important weekend that ever happened. Christians celebrate Good Friday because it is the day that Jesus willingly died for us and to show how loving and wonderful He is. The fact that Jesus let Himself be put up on the cross to pay for our sins, died, was buried, and then rose again is THE most important belief for a Christian to know. The Apostle Paul said it best in 1 Corinthians 15:3-6:

3 I told you the most important truths: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; 4 that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day, as the Scriptures say;5 and that he appeared to Peter and then to the twelve apostles. 6 After that Christ appeared to more than 500 other believers at the same time.

It was a terrible day, but you know, it had to happen for God’s plan to save us to work. Look at verse 3 again, “that Christ died for our sins.” That is needed for God to save us! If we didn’t have all this bad stuff on Good Friday, then Jesus would not have died on the cross for us. No cross, then no salvation, and no chance for us to be with Him in Heaven.

Maybe you're wondering, “Why did Jesus have to die to pay for our sins?” Great question, and I've got the answer for you, just check out keysforkids.org/salvation to learn about the bad things you (and I, and everyone) have done and why Jesus' death on the cross pays for those bad things and lets you go to Heaven.

So even if the stuff that happened on Good Friday was really bad, what it did in God’s plan was very good!
