Love Always Protects – Love Does Giveaway!

Every day until Valentine's Day, Dylan, Tami, and I (SteveO) are talking with you through 1 Corinthians 13, “the love chapter”. It's how we want to celebrate Valentine's Day with you!

1 Corinthians 14:7 “Love always protects…”

When we get to verse 7 of 1 Corinthians 13 (the “love” chapter), we see 4 qualities that are always characterized by love. The first of those “always” statements is: “Love always protects.”

Now, remember how I’ve been saying that it’s good to look at this chapter first as a description of the ways God loves us? Well, this one is no exception. The Greek word translated here as “protects” is stegei, which literally means “to cover”.

Now, keep that in your mind, and go with me to the Garden of Eden… waaaay back at the beginning of the Bible:

Genesis 3:21 “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”

What a picture: God as a tailor making clothes and then as a parent dressing the children. God covers them. He protects them, because love always protects.

So, how do we do this for others? How about not “broadcasting” the problems of others? How about not putting people down with jokes or sarcasm?

Love defends the character of the other person as much as possible. Love won’t lie about weaknesses, but neither will it deliberately expose and emphasize them. Love protects!
