Gideon Was Just Like You!

In the book of Judges, Israel was invaded by the Midianites as discipline for disobeying God. (The Israelites disobeyed God a lot in Judges, and He often used other nations to show them they need to worship only Him.)

The Bible says they cried out to God for help, and God answered them by having Gideon lead Israel’s army. But Gideon was no great kind of leader. His family was the weakest one in the tribe of Manasseh, and he was the youngest son. That's not the kind of person anybody in Israel would think could be a great leader!

The Midianite army was huge, and they had help from the Amalekites and other nations. Judges 7:12: “[they] had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.”

You know how big of an army God gave to Gideon to defeat them? Only 300 men! And they're supposed to go up against thousands and thousands of soldiers. But you know what? God used Gideon, a nobody from nowhere, and those 300 men, not because they made such a great army, but because they could only win with the help of God.

All the enemy soldiers turned and fought each other because “the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.” (Judges 7:22)

If you read much of the Bible, you know that God doesn’t use biggest, strongest people to do His work. He uses the people no one expects, so then everyone knows that God is the one who really did it.

So if God can use the youngest son of the weakest family to save Israel, He can definitely use you right now to do great things for Him too!
