Fun Ways To Pray Together

2024 is almost here! We have much to be thankful for so make sure we take time to pray and thank God for coming to be our Savior.

Here are some ideas to help spark your family's prayer life:

Places to Pray:

  1. Create a Prayer Corner: Designate a specific area in the house for prayer. You could keep a copy of the Bible and even a book of prayers, if that's a part of your tradition.
  2. Nature: Pray together in a park, garden, or beach to connect with God amidst the beauty of His creation.
  3. Church: Attend a midweek service or spend time in the church sanctuary for prayer.
  4. During Meals: Make prayer before or after meals a family ritual.
  5. Bedtime: Gather before bedtime to reflect on the day and offer prayers together.

Themes to Pray About:

  1. Gratitude: Express thankfulness for blessings, both big and small.
  2. Guidance: Seek God's guidance and wisdom for the upcoming year.
  3. Unity and Love: Pray for unity and love within your family and your community.
  4. Strength and Courage: Ask for strength to face challenges and courage to share the gospel with others.
  5. Service and Outreach: Pray for opportunities to serve others and make a positive impact.

Different Ways to Take Turns Praying:

  1. Popcorn Prayer: Each person prays spontaneously, adding to the collective prayer as they feel led.
  2. Passing the Torch: Pass an object (like a candle or a symbolic item) as a cue for the next person to pray.
  3. Prayer Jar: Write prayer requests or topics on slips of paper, then draw one to guide the prayer session.
  4. Specific Roles: Ask each family member to pray for specific topics like thankfulness, for God's action in a situation, or reflection to different family members.
  5. Structured Prayer: Use models like the ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) or PRAY (Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield) frameworks to guide prayers.

Additional Tips:

  1. Encourage Openness: Create a safe space for everyone to share their thoughts and feelings during prayer time.
  2. Rotate Leadership: Let different family members take turns leading the prayer time.
  3. Keep It Simple: Don’t make it overly complicated; the focus should be on honest conversation with God.
  4. Consistency: Establish a regular time for family prayer to build the habit.

Focus on the Family has an excellent article with 13 different ideas on how to pray. My favorite idea is getting up before the sun and watching the sunrise together while thanking God for coming to earth to be the light of the world. Wow! That would be an amazing tradition.

Thank you Jesus!
