Animal Sounds are FAKED for Movies!

Did you know, when TV shows and movies are being filmed, they don’t record any sound except for what the actors are saying? They have to add every sound of the environment and movement and people’s footsteps and clothes and everything. And for animated shows and movies, every single sound has to be added afterwards too!

So how do the sounds for animals in particular get made?

That’s the special job of a person called a foley artist. Foley is the name for all those kinds of sound effects to make a movie sound real.

You could use a tree stump for elephant footsteps, heavy rocks for horses, and flapping leather gloves for birds taking off!

What kind of place does a foley artist create the sounds in, and what other weird things do they use to make them?
