God’s Story

As we focus this week on the BEST NEWS EVER and celebrating Easter I thought we should take a step back so we could get the WHOLE story. God’s story.

The Bible is full of many, many stories but they are all a part of a bigger picture. What is this picture? Let’s start by connecting the dots.

Connect the dots? Get it??

Creation

First let’s rewind a little bit.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

He made all the stars and the animals. And He also created Adam and Eve who are our great, great, great, great, great (many more greats)…..grandparents. What God made He called not just good but “very good.”

Fall

The problem came when we messed it up.

When Adam and Eve took a bite of the forbidden fruit, disobeying God, sin entered into the world.

Sin changed everything. It put weeds in the garden, it brought sickness, disasters and made the animals fight. And it made people fight, too.

But most importantly, sin caused death and separated us from God. The Bible says that by the sin of one man we are all sinful. We are no longer right with God. And we all die.

Redemption

But God had a plan because He loves us!

Even back in the beginning He promised to fix what was broken by sin. All through the stories of the Old Testament we see this promise over and over again of the coming Messiah.

At the right time Jesus came to earth as Messiah and our rescuer. He lived a perfect life, died in our place and rose again winning over death. And through Jesus we can win over sin too.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Jesus not only made a way for us to be His children but someday He is going to make all things new. There will be no more death, no more tears and no more sin!

And this is the BEST NEWS EVER! As we think about and celebrate what Jesus has done for us this week let’s not forget that God’s story can be our story too!
