Way back before there were apps, before games on smartphones and tablets, even before video games on Playstation or Xbox, there were computer games!
And the very earliest computer games were text adventures, as in, there were no 3D landscapes or characters running around.
You just got a few pictures made out of giant pixels and you read words on the screen describing where you were and what was happening.
You even had to type in what you wanted to do, there wasn’t even a computer mouse to point to stuff!
But before you gasp in horror at how simple these games sound, let me tell you that one of the first successful games was based on the book The Hobbit, a story that you might love, and one of the game's designers disappeared after the game was published!
